TOEFL Exam Trainer

Remote·Volunteer·8–10 hrs / week·Unpaid

At ASA, we're looking for individuals who know the TOEFL exam deeply and want to put that knowledge to real use. As a TOEFL Exam Trainer, you'll work with Afghan students who are preparing for the TOEFL as a key step toward university admission abroad. This is not a general English teaching role — we're looking for people who understand the exam inside and out, know what it takes to score well, and can teach students how to get there.

Many of our students are girls who have been banned from education in Afghanistan. For them, a strong TOEFL score is not just an academic milestone — it's one of the most important steps toward a future they've been fighting for. Your expertise can make that real.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or have completed an undergraduate degree.
  • A TOEFL score of 90 or above is strongly preferred. If you don't have a TOEFL score, you should be able to demonstrate equivalent English proficiency.
  • Prior experience teaching, tutoring, or training students specifically for the TOEFL exam. General English teaching experience alone is not enough for this role.
  • Deep familiarity with the TOEFL structure, section strategies, scoring criteria, and common student challenges across Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
  • Ability to commit at least 8 to 10 hours per week, including teaching sessions, student feedback, and materials preparation.
  • Comfortable using Zoom, Google Docs, and Discord for remote teaching and communication.
  • Punctual, organized, and professional in how you communicate with students and team members.
  • Genuinely aligned with ASA's mission to support Afghan students through education.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver focused TOEFL preparation sessions covering all four sections — Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
  • Teach students section-specific strategies that actually move their scores.
  • Give detailed, personalized feedback on practice tests and student work.
  • Track each student's progress and adjust your teaching approach based on where they're struggling.
  • Prepare and share practice materials, mock tests, and study plans.
  • Join occasional instructor meetings or training sessions with the ASA team.
  • Show up as a mentor and motivator for students who are working incredibly hard under difficult circumstances.

What You Will Gain

  • Specialized teaching experience in a high-impact, international setting.
  • Stronger curriculum development, coaching, and communication skills.
  • A formal Certificate of Volunteer Service from Afghan Scholars Academy.
  • A place in a global network of educators doing meaningful work.
  • The knowledge that your expertise directly helped Afghan students — especially girls — access the universities they deserve.

If you know the TOEFL well and want to put that knowledge toward something that genuinely matters, we'd love to hear from you.
