Academic Writing Tutor
At ASA, we are looking for individuals with strong academic writing skills and a passion for teaching to help Afghan students improve their writing. As a Writing Tutor, you will work one-on-one or in small groups to guide students in writing academic essays, personal statements, scholarship applications, and more.
We are especially interested in people who have experience in teaching, tutoring, or mentoring and want to make a difference in the lives of students striving for global education opportunities. This is a meaningful opportunity to uplift talented Afghan students — especially girls — who have limited access to quality education.
Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled in or have completed an undergraduate degree.
- Strong academic writing and editing skills — this is the core of what you'll be doing.
- Some experience in teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or giving feedback on writing.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Ability to commit at least 10 hours per week, including tutoring sessions, planning, and written feedback.
- Punctual, responsive, and professional in all communication with students and team members.
- Comfortable using tools like Discord, Google Docs, and Zoom for remote work.
- Open to occasional training and feedback to keep improving as a tutor.
- Genuinely aligned with ASA's mission to support Afghan students through education.
Responsibilities
- Conduct one-on-one or group tutoring sessions with students.
- Provide feedback on academic essays, personal statements, and other writing tasks.
- Help students structure and refine their writing for clarity, coherence, and grammar.
- Track students' progress and maintain regular communication with them.
- Collaborate with ASA's team to deliver high-quality educational support.
- Participate in periodic meetings or workshops to sharpen your tutoring skills.
What You Will Gain
- Gain valuable teaching and leadership experience in an international, mission-driven organization.
- Develop strong mentoring, editing, and communication skills.
- Build your résumé with impactful volunteer work that supports educational equity.
- Receive a formal certificate of volunteer service from Afghan Scholars Academy.
- Be part of a supportive global network of young educators and change-makers.
- Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students who face real barriers to education.
If you are passionate about writing, committed to educational justice, and interested in supporting Afghan students in reaching their academic goals, we encourage you to apply. We are building an environment where you can contribute to ASA's mission while also developing academic and professional skills that serve your own future.
